Wildcat softball drops two at Long Beach Invite

LAKEWOOD, Calif. -- The Wildcats came up short of staking out a victory during the opening day of the Long Beach State Invitational.
The Weber State softball team fell to UC Santa Barbara during the first game of the day by a 4-1 count, and then dropped a 5-0 decision to Cal State Fullerton during the day's second game at Mayfair Park.
The Wildcats struggled to get hits in the two games, finishing with just three total hits during the two outings. Weber State also committed four errors during the two games, including three against Fullerton.
The day started out on the right foot as sophomore first baseman Cydnee Clarke hit a two-out single with the bases loaded that scored senior center fielder London Clarke, her older sister, and gave Weber State a 1-0 lead.
Santa Barbara score one run in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings to take the 4-1 lead and that's what the final score would end up as Weber State stranded seven runners on base.
In the second game, the Wildcats held Fullerton to just one run in the first five innings, but the Titans hit a two-run homer in the fifth and then added two more runs in the sixth to make it 5-0.
Weber State will take on Virginia Tech on Friday during day two of the Long Beach State Invitational, with the Wildcats set to face North Dakota State and UNLV on Saturday.
