Wildcats Defeat Utah State 4-3

OGDEN, Utah -- The Weber State men's tennis team avenged a February loss to Utah State on Wednesday, defeating the Aggies 4-3 at Edman Courts.
"This is a good win for us," said WSU head coach Brad Ferreira. "They beat us by a point earlier this year in Logan, so it was nice to have the guys come out strong and get this one."
The Wildcats picked up what proved to be a crucial point in doubles play, winning the No. 2 and 3 matches to take a 1-0 lead. Sanjay Goswami and and Todd Fought took an 8-5 win over Sean Lovesque and Fredrik Peterson in the No. 2 match, while Ryan Garner and Anthony Trabert pulled out an 8-6 win at No. 3 over Marcus Fritz and Andrew Whiting.
In singles, the Wildcats withstood a Utah State charge by getting the split they needed to clinch the match as Fought, Goswami, and Garner each posted wins.
Fought defeated Peterson 6-1, 7-5 in the No. 2 match, and Goswami downed Lovesque 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 5 match. Garner clinched the match for Weber State by earning a hard-fought 7-6, 7-5 win over Curran Wearmouth in the No. 6 spot.
The Wildcats finished off the match early, taking a 4-1 lead before the Aggies took the final two singles matches.
Weber State improved to 6-9 on the season with the win, while Utah State fell to 5-10.
