Wildcats Fall to Utes 6-1

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- The Weber State men's tennis team faced off against another strong in-state foe on Saturday in its early 2014 schedule, and suffered a 6-1 loss at the hands of the University of Utah at the Eccles Tennis Center.
The Utes took all three doubles matches, but had to go to a tiebreak to earn the No. 3 match, as Caio Poitena and James Smith fought to a 6-5(0) defeat.
In singles play, Oliver Good earned the Wildcats' lone point of the match, rallying from a set down to defeat Matt Cowley 5-6(9), 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 4 match.
Landon Barlow, who earned the Big Sky Player of the Week honor earlier in the week after a singles win against BYU, won his opening set agianst Devin Lane at No. 5, but injured his back early in the second set, and was ineffective for the rest of the match, falling 6-1, 6-2 over the last two sets.
