Berry leads Wildcats to third straight win

OGDEN – Davion Berry had 21 points to lead Weber State to a 79-62 win Saturday night at the Dee Events Center. The win improved the Wildcats to 5-5 overall and 2-0 in Big Sky play with their third straight victory.
The Wildcats shot 51 percent from the field, including 60 percent in the second half. They also knocked down a season-best nine three-pointers and shot a season-high 88 percent from the free throw line. WSU also had 18 assists and outrebounded the Vikings 37-25. They held Portland State to 41 percent shooting.
The Vikings jumped out to an early lead but Weber State rallied to hold a 36-27 lead at halftime. The Vikings cut the lead two five points twice in the second half and the 'Cats led 52-47 with 9:33 to play. From there Weber State went on an 18-3 run over the next 4:00 to seal the win.
“We got off to a bit of a slow start but I thought we really got going in the second half,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “We had a lot of contributions from a lot of people and it was a good team win. We fought hard and were able to get into a good rhythm in the second half.”
Berry also added seven rebounds and five assists for the Wildcats. He was 5-10 from the field and 9-10 from the free throw line. He had 16 of his 21 points in the second half.
Freshman Jeremy Senglin had another strong game for the Wildcats, finishing with 13 points and dished out a career-high eight assists. Senior guard Jordan Richardson came off the bench with 12 points on 4-7 shooting from three-point range. Joel Bolomboy had six points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
The 'Cats have now won 20 straight Big Sky regular season home games. They now hit the road for two difficult games next week playing at Northern Colorado Thursday and at North Dakota Saturday. Thursday's game at UNC will be televised on Altitude TV.
