OGDEN, Utah – The curtain came down on the Wildcats' 2014 season on Friday afternoon, with the Weber State University women's soccer team suffering a 2-1 setback to rival Idaho State in Big Sky Conference action at Wildcat Soccer Field in its season finale.
The Wildcats bid farewell to the three seniors, defender Ryley Hansen, midfielder Kendra Smith, and midfielder Mackenzie Peck, with the trio honored before kickoff for their respective four-year contributions to the Weber State program.
Weber State surged out to a 1-0 lead early in the second half when Peck redirected a cross from junior forward Stacy Bair just inside the post. It was Peck's fifth goal of the season and the 13th of her career, which gave her sole possession of 10th place on the Wildcats' all-time goal scoring charts.
Idaho State equalized in the 67th minute when Whitney Peterson hit a high crossing left-to-right shot that went just under the crossbar. The Bengals took the lead five minutes later when Maria Sanchez corralled the rebound after a clearance on a corner kick and hit a high shot just under the crossbar to make it 2-1.
The loss wrapped up Weber State's injury-ravaged 19th season at 5-13-1 overall and 2-7-1 in Big Sky Conference play.
