'Cats fall 76-60 to BYU

OGDEN – BYU never trailed and knocked down 12 3-pointers in route to a 76-60 win over Weber State Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.
The Cougars made their first five 3-pointers and jumped out to a quick 25-12 lead midway through the first half. They held a 39-25 lead at halftime after shooting 57 percent from the field.
The Wildcats cut the lead to eight points at 51-43 with 11:11 left in the game but BYU responded with a quick 6-2 run to regain a 12-point lead. The 'Cats were never closer than 10 points the rest of the way and BYU led by as many as 20 points late in the half.
The Cougars finished the game 12-of-19 from 3-point range and shot 54 percent from the field, compared to 37 percent shooting for the Wildcats. The Cougars also outrebounded Weber State 34-25.
The Wildcats were just 3-of-12 from 3-point range but shot 79 percent from the free throw line. WSU also had 10 turnovers.
“I was really proud of our effort and how together we played against a really good basketball team,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “We fought back in the second half. We had some looks that didn't go in and we gave up too many 3-pointers.”
Weber State was led by sophomore Jeremy Senglin who finished with 16 points and a game-high five assists. Senior James Hajek started the game for the first time this season and scored a season-high 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Joel Bolomboy added nine points and seven rebounds and Kyndahl Hill had eight points.
Tyler Haws led BYU with 19 points.
The loss drops Weber State to 3-5 on the season while BYU improves to 8-3. The Cougars have won 12 straight against the Wildcats.
Weber State returns home next Saturday for another in-state showdown taking on Utah Valley.
