Gittens lead 'Cats to 73-61 win over Utah Valley

OGDEN – Richaud Gittens had a career-high 21 points to lead four Wildcats in double figures as Weber State defeated Utah Valley 73-61 Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.
The Wildcats improve to 4-6 on the season and are now 5-0 against Utah Valley in Ogden.
WSU jumped out to an early 12-0 lead as the Wildcats made their first four 3-point attempts. WSU led by as many as 14 in the first half but UVU closed the half on an 8-0 run to cut the Wildcat lead to 31-28 at halftime.
The Wolverines took the lead for the first time at 34-31 two minutes into the second half. The Wildcats led 41-40 with 14:24 to play when Weber State responded with a 15-2 run over the next four minutes to take control of the game. UVU was never closer than seven points the rest of the way.
The Wildcats made a season-high 12 3-pointers, finishing the game 12-of-26 from beyond the arc. The 'Cats also had a season-high 18 assists on 22 field goals. WSU finished the game shooting 40 percent from the field, compared to 36 percent for UVU. The Wildcats were also 17-of-18 from the free throw line.
Gittens finished the game with 21 points on 6-of-12 shooting. He also knocked down a career-high five 3-pointers and had four rebounds, two assists and two steals on the night.
Jeremy Senglin finished with 16 points, made two 3-pointers and tied his career-high with eight assists. Joel Bolomboy added 11 points and seven rebounds and Chris Golden had 11 points off the bench.
“That was a good win against a really tough, physical team,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “I thought we hung in there really well and it was a nice team win. We started to get a little more rhythm offensively and made some moves in the right direction.”
Weber State will have a quick turnaround as the Wildcats take on nationally ranked Oklahoma on Monday in Norman, Okla. The Sooners are ranked 15th in the nation in this week's polls.
