ARLINGTON, Texas – A second-half rally wasn't enough for the Weber State men's basketball team as the Wildcats fell 63-56 at UT Arlington Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Weber State to 3-4 on the season.
WSU fell behind 28-21 at halftime after shooting just 29 percent from the field in the first half. The 'Cats opened the second half on a 17-2 run and took their biggest lead of the game at 38-30 with 14:42 to play. UTA came right back with an 11-0 run on their own to take a three-point lead and never trailed again.
The Wildcats cut the lead to one-point with 1:20 to play but the Mavericks scored the last six points of the game to seal the win.
“We dug ourselves a whole in the first half and didn't fight back quickly enough,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “In the second half we fought back and had an opportunity. We made some stops and were able to give ourselves a chance coming down the stretch. We just needed one more stop.”
The Wildcats finished the game shooting a season-low 32 percent from the field. The 'Cats were also 6-of-24 from 3-point land and were outrebounded 39-35 by the Mavericks. UTA shot 44 percent from the field and forced 15 Wildcat turnovers.
Arlington native Jeremy Senglin led the Wildcats with a season-high 18 points. He also pulled down a career-high seven rebounds and had a season-high five assists and two steals. Joel Bolomboy had his third double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three blocked shots. Chris Golden added 11 points for the Wildcats.
Weber State now returns home for two straight games beginning Saturday, Dec. 13 against BYU. WSU will host Utah Valley on Dec. 20.
