Wildcats Win Fourth-Straight Conference Match

SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Weber State men's tennis team remained unbeaten in Big Sky Conference play following a 5-2 win over Eastern Washington on Friday at the Spokane Racquet Club.
The Eagles landed the opening point after taking the doubles competition with a pair of tiebreak wins in the No. 1 and 3 matches. Weber State's lone doubles win came at No. 2, where Jakub Gewert and Todd Fought defeated Rendel Burghart and Matt Boyle 8-5.
In singles play, Weber State came out strong, winning five of six matches to take the overall match win. All five singles wins came in straight sets for the Wildcats.
Reigning Big Sky Player of the Week Todd Fought won his third-straight singles match, defeating Eduardo Bringhold 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 2 match. Fought's win pushed his season singles record to a team-best 10-3.
Landon Barlow and Caio Poitena also extended winning streaks, pushing their current run to four-straight victories. Barlow cruised in the No. 5 match, defeating Matt Boyle 6-2, 6-0, while Poitena took down Wacil Bendjelti 6-4, 7-5 at No. 4. Oliver Good saw a three-match win streak come to an end with Eastern Washington's lone singles win in the No. 3 match.
Sanjay Goswami grabbed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Stefan Farrar in the No. 6 match, and Jakub Gewert defeated Robert Dula 7-6, 6-3 in the No. 1 match.
Weber State improved to 8-7 overall on the season and to a league-leading 4-0 in the Big Sky. The Wildcats will continue conference play with a match against Portland State on Saturday.
