Wildcats Open Road Swing with Win over CMU

ST. GEORGE, Utah -- The Weber State women's tennis team returned from a 18-day break in the schedule on Friday, and opened up a three-match trip to southern Utah with a 6-1 win over Colorado-Mesa University.
The Wildcats took two of three doubles matches to score the opening point against the Mavericks, and followed with five of the six singles matches to run away with the match.
Kristi Elmer and Agata Bachanek cruised to an 8-2 win over Kaylee Davis and Rachel McLaughlin in the No. 1 doubles match, and Thais Kurer and Nittaya Phonharath followed soon after with an 8-3 win over Shannen McNamara and Kristyn Wykert at No. 2 to secure the point.
In singles play, Ashley Tanner gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead after scoring a 6-0, 6-1 win over Davis in the No. 3 match. Bachanek defeated Natalie Martin 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, and Elmer downed McNamara 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot to clinch the match for WSU.
Kurer and Michelle Warwick also scored straight-sets victories for the Wildcats in singles. Kurer took down McLaughlin 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4, while Warwick defeated Emily Dodson 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 6 match.
The Wildcats, who moved to 3-4 on the season with the win, will face Colorado-Mesa again on Saturday morning, before facing Dixie State College in the afternoon to wrap up the three-match set.
