OGDEN, Utah – Facing off with in-state rival Utah on Tuesday afternoon, the Weber State University softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against the Utes.

Utah captured a 9-2 victory in the opening act, and then rallied from a 4-0 deficit to take the second game 9-4 in non-conference action at Wildcat Softball Complex.

Senior right-hander/designated player Jasmine Ioane tallied four hits on the afternoon, while junior center fielder Malia Campos had three hits and two runs scored.

Freshman right fielder Sara Hingsberger helped the Wildcats get out to a quick start in the second game, hitting a three-run shot over the fence at left center that made it 4-0, and finished the afternoon with four combined RBI.

In the opening game, Weber State fell behind 5-1 in the third, and couldn't mount a comeback as the Wildcats stranded seven baserunners. Ioane and Campos each had two hits in that game.

In the second game, the Wildcats went ahead 4-0 in the first and put the Utes down in order in three straight innings.

Utah got its first baserunner of the game in the fourth inning, and went on to score three runs in the inning, three in the fifth, two in the sixth and another in the seventh.

Weber State's Big Sky series with North Dakota this weekend has been cancelled by UND due unplayable field conditions in Grand Forks, N.D., meaning will now have an unexpected weekend away from competition and return to action next Tuesday against in-state rival Utah State for a doubleheader in Logan, Utah.
