Late goals sink Wildcat soccer at LMU

LOS ANGELES – After finally digging out of an hour-long hole, the Wildcats just weren't able to finish it off.
The Weber State University women's soccer team succumbed to Loyola Marymount on a pair of late scores, falling 3-1 to the Lions on Friday night at Sullivan Field.
“The girls played well, they competed,” Weber State coach Tim Crompton said. “We just weren't able to finish the game off the last 10 minutes.”
The Wildcats (3-5-0) found themselves trailing early when LMU's Cassidy Nicks scored on a rebound to put the Lions (5-1-1) in front 1-0.
After a hard-fought opening half, LMU put the Wildcats under pressure early in the second half, but a strong effort from the Wildcat defense and redshirt freshman Sydnie Stokes held the Lions out of the net.
Weber State started to gain control of the matchflow again in the 70th minute and finally broke through in the 73rd when senior midfielder Ryley Hansen played the ball to junior forward Stacy Bair, and Bair lofted a shot over LMU's goalkeeper and into the back of the net to level the scoreline at 1-1.
It was Bair's third goal of the season and Hansen's second assist.
The goal gave the Wildcats a renewed breath of energy as they immediately pushed for a winner, creating several dangerous attacks.
With just eight minutes left in regulation, the Lions regained the lead after a defensive miscue near the edge of the third turned into a 1-on-1 opportunity for LMU's Morgan Hibly, and Hibly scored it for the 2-1 lead.
Hibly scored again in the 85th minute to wrap up the scoring, heading in a corner kick.
Weber State will be back in action on Sunday for its final non-conference match of the season, with the Wildcats set to take on CSUN at 2 p.m. MT in Northridge, Calif.
