OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State track and field team got its indoor season underway at the Snake River Open in Pocatello, Idaho, pickup up four total Big Sky Conference qualifiers. Both the men's and women's team had two qualifiers each.

For the women, Paige Cooper and Jazmin Porter both picked up qualifiers for the Wildcats. Porter moved her way up the record book in both the shot put and weight throw. She moved up to second all-time in the weight throw with a toss of 59-05.50. Her mark of 47-04-00 is the fifth best mark in school history.Cooper won the high jump with her mark of 5-07.00 just beating out teammate Lindsey Larsen with her mark of  5-05.00.

Other strong performances on the women's side came from Emily Morgan who won her first collegiate race. Her time of 7.75 in the 60-meter dash is the eighth fastest time run in school history. Taylor Cox took second in the 800-meters with a time of 2:20.80. Caitlin Jacobsen and Alysasa Heimuli both ran well in the 800-meters running 2:25.23 and 2:25.52 respectively. Ellie Child took second in the 3,00 meters with a time of 10:03.29.

For the men, Dustin Durfee won the 400-meter dash in 48.83, which qualifies him for the conference meet. Isaac Akers took second in the same race running 50.16. While Anthony Gregoy was the other qualifier for the Wildcats as his makr 6-11.00 was good enough to win the high jump.

Other impressive performance came from Jesse Krey who ran 7.01 in the 60-meter dash. With that time, he has now run the ninth fastest time in school history. Joey Czellecz won the 60-meter hurdles. Justin Herbert took second in the weight throw and CJ Deters took third in the shot put. Tyler Kendell took second in the heptathlon with a score of 4256.

Trevor Ricks took second place in the 3,000 meters in 8:36.34 and was followed closely by teammate Tip Worob who placed third. The men's 4 x400-meter relay team took second in a time of 3:19.36.

The Wildcats will take next week off before heading back to Pocatello to take part in the Mountain State Games on Friday, January 30.
