OGDEN, Utah – The Wildcats' winning streak came to an end.
The Weber State University softball team came up short against in-state rival BYU on Tuesday afternoon, falling 8-0 in five innings to the Cougars at Wildcat Softball Field.
The loss ended the Wildcats' seven-game winning streak, as the Purple and White fell to 22-11 overall.
Senior catcher Mylee Brown, who played a season for BYU before transferring to Weber State prior to last season went 2-for-2 against her former team, while sophomore right fielder Sara Hingsberger – who was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week earlier in the day – extended her hitting streak to eight straight games with a second-inning single.
Freshman designated player Molly Horne also had a hit for the Wildcats.
Weber State (22-11 overall, 3-0 Big Sky) will be back in action on Friday as the Wildcats return to Big Sky Conference action against Portland State. First pitch against the Vikings is set for 2 p.m. on Friday at Wildcat Softball Field.
