Orem, Utah – The Weber State men's and women's track and field teams traveled down to Orem on Friday to compete against some of the best competition in the state at the UVU Collegiate Invite.

The Wildcats picked up eight new qualifying marks and six victories. Emily Morgan (100m), Jazmin Porter (shot put, discus), Tony Osheku Jr. (100m), Josh Hartford (800m) and Dustin Durfee (400m hurdles), Tip Worob (3000m steeplechase) and Joe Maloney (800m) all reached qualifying marks.

“Our best race of the day had to be the men's 800 (meters) as we had three runners in the 1:53 range,” Director of Track and Field Dan Walker said. “Emily Morgan came really close to breaking the freshmen record, which is good for the second race of the season. I was happy with the relays as they all ran really well. This was a good meet for the whole team.”

On the women's Morgan ran the eighth-fastest time in school history as she won the 100-meters in 11.96. That is the first time since 2012 that a Wildcat had broke 12 seconds. She also ran a personal-best in the 200-meters running 25.08.

Porter picked up the victory in the shot put with a new personal-best mark of 47-03.00. That is the fourth best mark in school history. She also took second in the discus in a mark of 159-03.00. Natasha Powell finished second in the shot put with a new personal-best mark of 43-01.75. That is the 10th best mark in school history.

Tawnie Moore finished second in the 110-meter hurdles while Kiersten Watkins was second in the 400-meter hurdles. Paige Dilmore took second in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:40.45.

Both relay teams, 4x100 and 4x400, were victorious as they ran 47.07 and 3:49.24 respectively.

On the men's side, Worob and CJ Deters were the two victors for the Wildcats. Worob edged Chris Brewer of Utah Valley University. Deters mark of 50-11.50 in the shot put was a new personal-best.

Osheku Jr. ran two personal-best times at the meet. His time of 21.46 placed him second in the 200-meters. His time of 10.74 in the 100-meters was sixth and fast enough to secure his place at the conference meet.

Durfee placed second in the 400-meter hurdles in a seasonal-best time of 53.10 while Isaac Akers was fourth in 53.79.

Hartford took third in the 800-meters in a new personal-best time of 1:51.64 while Maloney took sixth in 1:53.31. Zack Schweinsberg also ran well in the eighth place with a time of 1:53.98.

The Wildcats will return to action next week at the Stanford Invitational and Tom Benich Invite.
