Weber State takes down Santa Clara 4-2

OGDEN, Utah -- The Weber State men's tennis team took down Santa Clara 4-2 in a well fought match.
"Santa Clara is very good and has beaten ranked teams this year," head coach Brad Ferreira said. "It was a very impressive perormance from everyone today."
The Wildcats had a good showing in singles, Jakub Gewert cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ashot Khacharyan at No. 1 to give Weber State a strong start to the match. Landon Barlow took down Sam Bertram 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot. Hou-En Chen and Sanjay Goswami each followed with straight set wins to put the match away. Chen defeated Max Heerinckx 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 and Goswami got past Sebastien Mathieu 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 spot.
Santa Clara's points came in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches where Ilya Osintsev defeated Stefan Cooper and Mikheil Khmiadashvil defeated Todd Fought. Â
Due to scheduling conflicts the doubles matches were not played and could only be played if played if the singles matches ended in a tie.
The Wildcats moved to 5-8 overall record. They will resume Big Sky play by hosting Eastern Washington Sunday, March 8 followed by another pair of home matches against North Dakota and Portland State March 13-14.
