'Cats clinch narrow 4-3 victory over EWU

OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State women's tennis team dropped the doubles point on Saturday, but rallied with four singles wins to defeat Eastern Washington 4-3 for the team's second-straight Big Sky win.
"We pulled out another very close match again today," head coach Jonas Erhlin said. "After we lost the doubles point the team really rallied together and performed well in singles. We got off to a good start in singles by winning the first set in five of the matches and I am proud how the players didn't let up and how they finished their matches."Â
In doubles play, the team of Dominique Beauvais and Romy Dodd-Stephens defeated Erin Blessing and Dani Young 6-4 in the No. 2 doubles spot but their efforts weren't enough to earn the doubles point for Weber State on the day. Trailing 1-0 after dropping two tough doubles matches, the Wildcats responded with four solid victories in singles play.
Agata Bachanek defeated Janaya Smith 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) in the No.1 singles match while Beauvais took down Erin Blessing 6-2, 6-3 in No. 3 spot. Eastern Washington's Rachel Swindell took down Kristi Elmer 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 2 spot and Young took down Devi Hasan in the No. 5 spot 6-2, 6-2.
Weber State's Dodd-Stephens and Emily Tanner also earned victories in singles play sending the Wildcats to the narrow 4-3 victory.
Weber State improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in Big Sky play. The Wildcats will face the University of Idaho Sun. March 8 before playing six consecutive road games starting with the University of Utah on Sun. March 22.
