BOISE, Idaho – The Wildcats' bats went dark at just the wrong time.

Despite charging out to a 3-0 lead in their first three offensive half-innings, the Weber State University softball team suffered a disappointing 4-3 loss to in-state rival Utah State during second day action at the SpringHill Suites Invitational at Boise State's Dona Larsen Park.

Weber State fell to 2-1 during the Invitational and 10-8 overall with the loss.

Sophomore left fielder Katelyn Robinson hit her second career home run over the fence at center field, and sophomore right fielder Sara Hingsberger had an RBI single that scored senior center fielder Malia Campos after Campos hit a first-inning double down the right field line.

Weber State led 1-0 after one, went up 2-0 on Robinson's long ball, and then made it 3-0 after Hingsberger scored while Utah State tried to catch junior shortstop Aubrey Whitmer stealing second base.

The Wildcats got a potential tying run to third base in the sixth, but came up just one play short from moving it home to tie things up.

Weber State will be back in action on Sunday, wrapping up its three-day participation with a rematch against the Aggies at 1 p.m., followed immediately by a rematch against Boise State at 3:15 p.m.
