Weber State earns 2015 Big Sky Title on senior day

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State's men's tennis team has earned back-to-back regular season Big Sky Conference championship titles. The Wildcats defeated Northern Colorado 5-2 Sunday morning solidifying the 2015 Big Sky title in the last home match of the season.
To start the day off, Weber State swept the doubles point. Landon Barlow and his partner Hou-En Chen picked up their ninth consecutive win and defeated Eric Schuermans and Jacob Sheldon 6-2 in the No. 3 spot. Stefan Cooper and Sanjay Goswami took down Mitchel Knight and Conner Finerty 6-3 in the No. 1 spot.
To make a clean sweep of the doubles round senior Dylan Hansel and junior Todd Fought defeated Ben Gendron and Jordan Loughnan in Hansel's last match as a Wildcat. Hansel ended the set with an ace to clinch the tiebreaker point in the No. 2 spot.
"We are going to miss Dylan," head coach Brad Ferreira said. "He did all the things behind the scene to make this team successful over the last couple of years. He would always let me know when I missed the turns."
In singles play the Bears found victories in the No. 1 and 4 spots. Goswami started singles off by defeating Sheldon 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 5 spot earning his fourth straight win. Chen was the next Wildcat to earn a singles victory by defeating Cassell King 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 spot.
Fought defeated Knight 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 2 spot giving Weber State the match winning point over Northern Colorado. Shao-Po Yin also picked up a win taking down Schuermans 7-6, 7-6.
The Wildcats have ended the regular season with a 15-9 overall record and finshed No. 1 in the Big Sky with a 10-1 record ending with 10 consecutive wins. Weber State will next compete in the Big Sky Championship Tournament April 24-26.
