POCATELLO, Idaho – Stormy skies and lightning flashes ultimately won the day.
With the Weber State University softball team leading Sacramento State 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Mother Nature decided the Wildcats and Hornets had played enough for Thursday.
Due to lighting strikes inside two miles from Idaho State's Miller Ranch Stadium, game officials suspended play with one out, one on and the Hornets' Kortney Solis at the place facing a full count.
That's the situation both teams will face when play resumes at 10 a.m.
The winner of the game between the Wildcats and Hornets will face top-seed Idaho State approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of the contest with one of the two berths into the Big Sky Conference championship game on the line.
The loser of the game will face Southern Utah in an elimination game approximately 30 minutes after the previous games conclusion.
The Wildcats trailed 1-0 early, but scored four runs in the top of the second, including two on a blistering 275-foot home run from junior first baseman Krystin Kubo.
