Weber State picks up 6-1 Big Sky win over MSU

OGDEN - The Weber State men's tennis team had a slow start to the match but ultimately defeated Montana State in the first home and first conference match of the year with a 6-1 score.
"We had a slow start today, but in singles play everyone played really solid," Director of Tennis Brad Ferreira said. "Even when we were down we hung in there and continued to fight back to win which was good. Montana State is a well coached and tough team so winning 6-1 today and starting conference with a win was excellent."
Montana State claimed the first point of the day by picking up the doubles point. The team of Landon Barlow and Hou-En Chen were the only Wildcats to pick up a victory in doubles point. Barlow and Chen defeated Dylan Harvala and Mateus Ceolin 6-2 in the No. 3 spot.
Weber State dominated singles play sweeping all six matches.
The No. 2 singles spot was the first to finish on the day as Todd Fought defeated Alexander Flink 6-4, 6-1. Stefan Cooper finsihed his match next with scores of 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 3 spot. In the No. 1 spot Jakub Gewert defeated Kellen Bates 7-5, 6-1.
The Wildcats had a 3-1 lead over the Bobcats as Barlow took down Charles Edgecombe 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot to solidfy the Wildcat victory.
Chen and Sanjay Goswami's matches both went into tiebreaker sets and both Wildcats picked up victories. Giving Weber State the 6-1 match victory.
Weber State is now 2-4 on the season and 1-0 in Big Sky Conference play. The Wildcats will next travel to Grand Forks, North Dakota to take on the University of North Dakota to continue Big Sky play.
