Wildcats pick up first win of the season

GRAND FORKS, ND - Weber State women's tennis picked up its first win of the season by taking down North Dakota 4-3 in the first Big Sky matchup of the season.
"It was dissapointing to lose the doubles although the one and two spots played well," Director of Tennis Brad Ferriera said. "Devi is on fire at the moment and got us off to an early start on singles."
North Dakota started the match off by sweeping the doubles point.
Singles play started off on a high note with a solid win in the No. 5 spot by Devi Hasan. Hasan never lost a set and took down Mary Wessman 6-0, 6-0. Morgan Dickason also picked up a win in the No. 6 defeating Aliza Deming 6-4, 6-3. Agata Bachanek match went into three sets at the No. 1 spot but Bachanek defeated Lacey Sprinkel 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
With North Dakota picking up wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots the score was all tied up 3-3. The winning point came down to the No. 2 match. Kristi Elmer had won one set and lost one set, Elmer came out dominating the third set and won her match 7-6, 6-7, 6-1 giving the Wildcats the first win of the season.

"Devi is on fire at the moment and got us off to an early start on singles. Kristi Elmer played the third set of her match aggressive and did not give her opponent a chance. Winning today was a good way to start off conference play."
Weber State is now 1-7 overall on the season and 1-0 in Big Sky Conference play. The Wildcats will next travel to Eastern Washington for another Big Sky match up.
