Weber State picks up big win over EWU

CHENEY, Wash. - Weber State women's tennis picked up a 4-3 win over Eastern Washingon who was undefeated, 3-0, in conference play.

"We started off slow in the doubles which was dissappointing but singles play was really strong," Director of Tennis, Brad Ferreira said. "Devi was definitely the player of the match. Our team is fantastic and growing and improving. Everyone came out and played like we wanted to win. Even the matches we lost were very close competitive."

Eastern Washington started the match off sweeping the doubles point but the Wildcats answered with solid singles play.

The No. 1 singles match went into three sets with Agata Bachanek taking down Janaya Smith 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

In the No. 2 singles match Kristi Elmer played strong tennis. Elmer sent the first set into a tie breaker and won and came from behind in the second set to defeat Moira Hedberg 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.

Doiminque Beauvais has been playing excellent tennis lately and found succss in the No. 4 spot taking down Dani Young 6-4, 6-3.

With Eastern Washington picking up wins in the three and six spots the score was tied 3-3.

The match came down to Devi Hasan in the No. 5 spot. Hasan's match went into three sets and after losing the second she defeated Erin Blessing 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

The Wildcats are now 2-7 overall on the season and 2-0 in Big Sky Conference play. Weber State will take on the University of Idaho tomorrow.
