Weber State takes down UC Riverside 5-2

LAS VEGAS - The Weber State men's tennis team picked up the first victory of the season taking down UC Riverside in Las Vegas with a 5-2 score.
The Wildcats started the day off strong sweeping the doubles win. Stefan Cooper and Sanjay Goswami we're down 5-2 before coming back and taking down Julian Ruffin and Calvin Ngo in the No. 1 spot with a 7-6 (6) score.
Todd Fought and Jakub Gewert defeated Kyle McCann and Marcus Vizcarra 6-2 in the No. 2 spot.
In the No. 3 doubles spot, Hou-En Chen and Landon Barlow took down Sean Robles and Hans Baumstark 6-3.
In the singles spot, Gewert took down Ruffin in three sets in the No. 1 spot with 3-6, 7-6 (3), 10-6 scores. In the No. 2 spot Fought continued to play strong tennis by taking down Sean Yun 6-3, 6-1.
Cooper picked up a solid win in the No. 4 spot against Robles with scores of 6-4, 7-5.
The biggest win of the match came from Goswami in the No. 5 spot. Goswami was down 3-0 in one set before claiming the match 5-7, 6-4, 6-0.
Weber State is now 1-2 overall on the season. The Wildcats will have two more matches in Las Vegas against UNLV and New Mexico state before hosting their first home match and first Big Sky Conference game against Montana State on Feb. 12.
