LAS VEGAS -  Weber State men's tennis lost a thrilling match to New Mexico State 3-4 Sunday afternoon.

"It was a fun match," Director of Tennis, Brad Ferreira said. "The match came down to just two matches left and our guys played tough good tennis. Everyone played really well today. Last year they beat us handily so it was good that at least this year it was close."

In doubles competition Todd Fought and Jakub Gewert defeated Stign de Haan and Mauri Benitez 6-2 in the No. 2 spot. In the No. 3 spot Hou-En Chen and Scott Hintze picked up the win over Enrique Asmar and Nichoals Springer 6-3. The two victories gave Weber State the doubles point going into singles play.

The singles competition started off with a loss in the No. 4 spot. But Stefan Cooper picked up a win in the No. 3 spot over Springer 6-3, 6-3. Gewert was the next Wildcat to pick up a win and he defeated Strahinja Trecakov 6-4, 6-1 in th No. 1 spot. After a loss in the No. 6 spot the score was 3-2 in favor of the Weber State.

The match came down to Fought's singles match and Sanjay Goswami's match. Fought fell in two tie breaker sets to Christofer Goncalves 7-6, 7-6. Goswami fought hard forcing his match to go into three sets but fell to Benitez 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

NMSU claimed the match with a 4-3 final score.

The Wildcats are now 1-4 on the season and will start Big Sky Conference play Feb. 12 by hosting Montana State.
