FRESNO, Calif. – The final day of the Fresno State Classic brought a walkoff thriller and a hard-fought bout with a nationally-ranked foe for the Wildcats.

The Weber State University softball team topped San Diego State 5-4 in their morning game, scoring the final three runs of the game on senior shortstop Aubrey Whitmer's three-run blast over the fence, before dropped a time-shortened 10-3 decision to No. 8 Washington in the day's second game.

With the split, the Wildcats moved to 13-9 overall, and have one non-conference tournament remaining prior to the start of Big Sky Conference action.

Against the Aztecs, the Wildcats pounded out 12 hits, with three of those coming during the critical seventh inning rally.

With two outs, freshman Sadie Blacker hit a pinch-hit single to centerfield, followed by a single up the middle by senior third baseman Alyson Kulp, setting the stage for Whitmer's three-run jack that lifted the Wildcats to the win.

San Diego State, which won an earlier meeting of the two teams during the opening weekend of the season 2-1, took a 1-0 lead in the third, but Whitmer had an RBI double and junior outfielder Sara Hingsberger had an RBI single to put the Wildcats in front.

The Aztecs tied it at 2-2 in the fourth and took a 4-2 lead in the top of the sixth.

In the day's second game, the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead over the nationally-ranked Huskies in the first inning on Whitmer's RBI single.

Washington (19-3) built a 10-1 lead after four innings, but Weber State pushed two across the plate in the fifth on an RBI double from Hingsberger and an RBI bunt single from junior outfielder Mackenzi Corta to make it 10-3.

The Wildcats singled to lead off the sixth, but the game was called at two hours to allow both teams to catch return flights home.

Weber State returns to action for its sixth and final non-conference tournament this coming weekend at the San Diego Classic II, hosted at the Santee Sportsplex in Santee, Calif.

The Wildcats will face Colorado State, San Diego, Long Beach State, San Jose State, and St. Mary's during the three-day tournament.
