Weber State defeats Portland State 4-3

PORTLAND, Ore. - Weber State's men's tennis started a four game road trip off on the right foot by defeating Portland State 4-3.
Portland State claimed the doubles point by picking up wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. However, Stefan Cooper and Sanjay Goswami won the No. 1 doubles match taking down Ethan Lopez and Brent Wheeler 7-5.
Singles play didn't start off in favor of the Wildcats as the Vikings picked up a win in the No. 1 spot. Hou-En Chen changed the momentum in favor of the Wildcats as his match was the next to finish in the No. 4 spot and he picked up a 7-6, 6-1 win over Wheeler.
Cooper picked up his fourth consecuvtive singles win by defeating Scott Goldner in the No. 3 spot 6-1, 7-6.
After losing the first set, Landon Barlow went on to defeat Wil Cochrane 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 5 spot giving Weber State a 3-2 lead over Portland State.
The match was decided but the No. 2 singles match. Todd Fought won his first set but lost his second set. Fought came through in the third set, ultimately defeating Lopez 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 to give the Wildcats the point needed to edge them to an overall victory.
With Portland State picking up a win in the No. 6 spot the final score was 4-3 for Weber State.
The Wildcats are now 3-0 in Big Sky Conference play and 4-4 overall on the season. They will take on the University of Portland tomorrow before going to California to take on Santa Clara and UC Riverside.
