OGDEN – For the third consecutive year, the Weber State University women's soccer team has been publicly recognized by the NCAA for having an Academic Progress Report in the top 10 percent of NCAA Division I.
Weber State is the only women's soccer team in the Big Sky Conference to ever be recognized by the NCAA, and is the only women's soccer team in the state of Utah to be recognized multiple times, through the 2014-15 academic year, which is the latest data available.
“Our primary goal is to graduate the student-athletes in our program, which consequently can provide them a sense of accomplishment and confidence as they move on with their lives following their time here at our institution,” Weber State coach Tim Crompton said. “We take great pride in our program's ability to established the academic success it has achieved. The credit undoubtedly must go to the Weber State University administration, its professors, the leadership of our athletic department, and most importantly, to the students themselves.
“In addition, I need to mention the outstanding effort that Coach Meagan Thunell puts into the academic journey of our student-athletes. We are tremendously proud of the type of people that our program produces.”
All Division I teams' APR scores, including those receiving the Public Recognition Award, will be released April 20. All teams must meet a certain academic threshold to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.
The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2011-2012, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.
