SALT LAKE CITY – Led by goals from three different players, the University of Utah women's soccer team topped Weber State 4-0 in both team's season opener on Friday night at Ute Field.
The youthful Wildcats, who fielded only three returning full-time starters from last year's 10-win team, fell behind just seconds into the match after an early miscue resulted in an own goal.
Despite the early mistake, Weber State showed flashes of potential over the next 75 minutes before a pair of late goals by the Utes put the match out of reach.
The Purple and White will make their home debut on Friday against Grand Canyon. Kickoff against the Lopes is set for 3:30 p.m., and is the first of four straight – and seven of nine overall – at Wildcat Soccer Field for Weber State.
