OGDEN – It was a happy homecoming for the Wildcats.

Freshman midfielder Megan Price and junior midfielder Kelsi Tatton each scored as the Weber State University women's soccer team topped Grand Canyon 2-0 at Wildcat Soccer Field on Friday afternoon.

Junior goalkeeper Sydnie Brough picked up the shutout in goal, making a pair of saves.

Weber State improved to 1-1-0 overall and won its fourth straight home match dating back to last season. The Wildcats also improved to 2-0-0 against the Lopes, both shutout victories.

Grand Canyon (0-3-0) opened the match aggressively, but Weber State became the stronger side as the contest wore on, with both goals coming in the second half.

Freshman midfielder Megan Price scored the Wildcats first goal of the season in the 55th minute, punching in a short-range shot at the far post off a cross from sophomore midfielder Celeste Wheelwright to make it 1-0. It's the second straight season that a freshman scored Weber State's first goal of the season.

Junior midfielder Kelsi Tatton added an insurance goal in the 86th minute, hitting a rainbow from 30 yards out just under the crossbar off an assist from sophomore forward Morgan Quarnberg.

The goal marked yet another milestone for the Wildcat program as it was Weber State's 1,500th point in its 385th match.

Weber State will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 2, when it hosts the New Mexico Lobos at 3:30 p.m. at Wildcat Soccer Field.
