OGDEN – The Wildcats bent, but they never broke.
The Weber State University women's soccer team fiercely battled New Mexico for 110 minutes in 0-0 draw on Friday afternoon at Wildcat Soccer Field.
The Wildcats moved to a 1-1-1 overall with their second straight shutout. Junior goalkeeper Sydnie Brough made seven saves in picking up the shutout and extending her streak to 210:37 scoreless minutes.
Freshman central defenders Nicolle Allen and Gabrielle Vivier-Hannay both played all 110 minutes in front of Brough as Weber State repeatedly blunted a New Mexico's attack in collecting its second straight shutout. It's the first time the Wildcats have earned a shutout in consecutive matches since the 2013 season.
The Purple and White just narrowly missed snagging a last-minute win when sophomore midfielder Madison Garlock found herself in front of the net with the Lobos' goalkeeper helplessly in no-man's land, but a New Mexico defender made a last-chance save on the goal line in the 87th minute to keep things level.
Weber State will face two matches next weekend as it wraps up its current four-match homestand against New Mexico State (3:30 p.m., Sept. 9) and Air Force (12 p.m., Sept. 11) at Wildcat Soccer Field.
