OGDEN – A blistering start put the Wildcats in the driver's seat, and gave them just enough gas to cruise over the finish line.
Sophomore forward Morgan Quarnberg had a goal and an assist, and sophomore midfielder Madison Garlock scored the eventual match-winner in the fifth minute as the Weber State University women's soccer team extending its unbeaten streak to three matches with a 2-1 win over New Mexico State on Friday afternoon at Wildcat Soccer Field.
With the win, Weber State improved to a 2-1-1 and remained undefeated all-time against teams from the state of New Mexico (6-0-1), including a 4-0-0 mark against the Aggies (1-6-0).
The Wildcats exploded out the gate in the 3rd minute when Quarnberg pounced on a misplayed trap attempt by the New Mexico State goalkeeper and chipped the ball into the goal from 15 yards out to make it 1-0.
Garlock doubled the lead in the fifth minute when she tapped home a shot from eight yards out on a left-to-right cross across the goal mouth that put her one-on-one with a defender for a close-quarters finish.
New Mexico State ended the Wildcats' shutout streak in the 58th minute with Audriana Chavez hitting home a goal through traffic from about eight yards out. The goal ended a stretch of 268 minutes, 31 seconds between goals allowed for WSU.
Weber State will be back in action on Sunday at Noon when the Wildcats host Air Force at Wildcat Soccer Field to wrap up their current four-match homestand.
