OGDEN – The Wildcats are going to get a chance to dance under the lights.
Thanks to a generous donation by the family of Robert Burton, Wildcat Soccer Field – the home of Weber State University women's soccer – will soon have the capability to host night matches.
"Playing night matches, under the lights, creates a little bit of a magical atmosphere that is fun for our players," Weber State coach Tim Crompton said. "This is an exciting addition to our field. We've had one of the best playing surfaces in college soccer for a while now, and adding lights is one of the final pieces for us in creating a world-class environment for our kids to play at in front of our fans.
"We are extremely grateful to the Burton family for their love and passion for soccer in the community, and their generous support of our program."
The light poles arrived at Wildcat Soccer Field on Monday, and are currently in the process of being installed. Weber State's first official home match under the lights will be on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. against Idaho.
"The addition of lights to our soccer field has a been a goal of our coaches and players for some time and will further the opportunity to provide them the chance to compete in the best atmosphere we can provide," Weber State Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jerry Bovee said. "Our women's soccer program has a strong tradition of in-state recruiting, and playing matches at night, affords the families and friends of our players more opportunities to watch them play. Additionally, we hope it will also help us to expand our soccer fan base moving forward."
Weber State Athletics would also like to recognize the generous in-kind donations made by Rob Crown of Crown Electrical, Eric Maughan of Maughan Construction, Redd Roofing, Staker-Parsons, and Boman-Kemp.
