PORTLAND - Weber State rushed for 421 yards and rolled to a 63-17 win at Portland State Saturday afternoon at Providence Park.

The win moved the 12th ranked Wildcats to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in Big Sky play with one regular season game remaining. Weber State remains tied for first in the Big Sky standings with Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. Those two teams play Saturday in Cedar City.

Portland State scored first on a 41-yard field goal, but it was all Weber State after that. Rashid Shaheed returned the ensuing kickoff 90-yards for a touchdown and the 'Cats never looked back. Weber State scored seven-straight touchdowns after that and led 56-3 early in the third quarter.

Weber State totaled a season-high 585 yards of total offense. The 421 rushing yards is tied for the third most in a game in school history and is the most rushing yards in a game since 1972. The 63 points is tied for the sixth most in a game in WSU history and is the most against a Division I team since scoring 73 at Portland State in 2007.

WSU had seven rushing touchdowns in the game. Sophomore Kevin Smith had seven carries for 143 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 20.4 yards per carry. He had a 75-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Freshman David Jones had 12 carries for 103 yards an a touchdown and junior Treshawn Garrett had nine carries for 88 yards and three touchdowns, including a 51-yard TD in the third quarter.

Stefan Cantwell was 9-of-13 passing for 157 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 26 yards and another touchdowns.

In addition to the kickoff return touchdown, Shaheed had a 60-yard reception for a touchdown in the second quarter. Andrew Vollert had four catches for 47 yards and moved past 100 career receptions.

Defensively, Brady May, Preston Smith and Xequille Harry each had five tackles, and Auston Tesch, Landon Stice and Jonah Williams each had a sack. The Wildcats had six tackles for loss and forced two Viking fumbles. WSU played again without Taron Johnson who missed the game with a hamstring injury.

This marks the first time since 2008 Weber State has reached eight wins in a season.

The Wildcats will close out the regular season Saturday with a home game against Idaho State at 2 p.m. A win would give the Wildcats at least a share of the Big Sky title.
