Bohling fans eight as Wildcat softball tops Iona

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Wildcats made the most out of their first day in California.

Behind a season-high eight strikeouts from junior right-hander Kirtlyn Bohling, the Weber State University softball team opened up the Highlander Classic with a 4-1 victory over Iona on Friday afternoon at Amy S. Harrison Field.

Bohling went the complete game, allowing just five hits and one walk as she picked up her sixth win in the circle.

Freshman right fielder Takesha Saltern had two hits, including an RBI single, and freshman center fielder Landi Hawker had two hits and a run scored for the Wildcats, while junior catcher Molly Horne had a two-RBI single for during Weber State's three-run fourth inning that turned a 1-0 lead into a 4-0 advantage.

Weber State improved to 9-10-1 overall as the Wildcats won their second straight and improved to 9-3 in their last 12 games.

The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after freshman shortstop Sydney White hit a two-out RBI single to center field that scored junior left fielder Rae Gall.

Weber State will be back in action on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. MT (11:30 a.m. Pacific) against the University of Tennessee-Martin.
