Late penalty sinks Wildcats in season opener

LAS VEGAS – An unfortunate last-minute mistake ended up being the difference for the Wildcats.
Wright State's Niki Romero scored an 83rd minute penalty kick as the Raiders edged the Weber State University women's soccer team 1-0 on a scorching Friday afternoon at UNLV's Johann Fied.
It was a tough break for the Wildcats who had several strong stretches of play during the match, and just narrowly missed converting a breakaway that would've put the Purple and White ahead midway through the second half.
In all, Weber State (0-1-0) outshot Wright State (1-0-0) 9-8, but struggled to put those on frame, finishing with just one shot on goal in the 90 minute match.
