Northern Arizona had six turnovers, with four fumbles and two interceptions. Weber State had five turnovers with three interceptions and two fumbles.
The Lumberjacks totaled 352 yards of offense, compared to 176 for the Wildcats. WSU had  115 yards rushing and 61 yards passing.
"It was two defenses that have forced a lot of turnovers but we gave up too many yards on defense and our five turnovers killed us," said Weber State head coach Jay Hill.
Northern Arizona scored first at the end of the first quarter with a 30-yard completion to take a 7-0 lead. The Lumberjacks were driving deep in Wildcat territory late in the second quarter when things changed for Weber State. Landon Stice recorded a sack and forced a fumble, which Preston Smith recovered and returned 86 yards for a touchdown. The Wildcats then added a two-point conversion and took an 8-7 lead at halftime.
The Wildcats came out blazing to start the second half. Jake Constantine hit Darryl Denby for a 46-yard touchdown to make it 15-7. On the next possession, NAU fumbled the ball and four plays later, Trey Tuttle connected on a 34-yard field goal to put the Wildcats up 18-7 with 10:39 left in the third quarter.
A Lumberjack field goal made it 18-10 with 8:24 left in the third quarter.
NAU sacked Constantine and returned the fumble 30-yards for a touchdown, then added a two-point conversion to tie the game 18-18.
Tuttle connected on a 32-yard field goal as the Wildcats regained the lead 21-18, before NAU knocked down a 38-yard field goal to tie the game at 21-21 with 3:17 left in the third.
After each team threw interceptions early in the fourth quarter, NAU took a 28-21 lead with an eight-yard touchdown run.
Tuttle hit his third field goal as he connected on a career-long 52 yard field goal to make it 28-24, but the Wildcats could not score again.
