Wildcats fall 75-70 to Eastern Washington

OGDEN - Weber State saw its nine-game losing streak snapped as the Wildcats fell 75-70 to Eastern Washington Thursday night at the Dee Events Center. 

The loss is WSU's first since Jan. 13 and drops the Wildcats to 19-8 overall and 12-3 in Big Sky play with three games remaining. 

Eastern Washington jumped out to an early 19-6 lead on the Wildcats before WSU rallied back. The 'Cats closed the first half on a 14-6 run over the final seven minutes but the Eagles still held a 32-31 lead at the break. 

Weber State started the second half on a 14-7 run and took an eight point lead with 14:40 to play. From there, Eastern Washington went on a 18-3 run over the next seven minutes and took a seven-point lead. EWU led by eight with 2:29 to play. The Wildcats cut the lead to three with 1:25 remaining but the Eagles were 6 of 6 from the line in the final 32 seconds to seal the win. 

Eastern Washington shot 51 percent from the field, compared to 42 percent for Weber State. The Wildcats knocked down 14 3-pointers, which is the most against a Division I team this season. WSU was 14 of 30 from 3-point land. The Eagles outscored WSU 40-14 in points in the paint and outrebounded the Wildcats 33-29. 

Weber State had four players in double figures led by sophomore Jerrick Harding who finished with 17 points, to go along with five rebounds. Brekkott Chapman had 15 points with four 3-pointers before fouling out. Ryan Richardson also knocked down four 3-pointers and added 14 points and Zach Braxton had 13 points and seven rebounds. 

Senior Bogdan Bliznyuk led Eastern Washington with 27 points with 19 points coming in the second half. 

The Wildcats are still in second place in the league standings at 12-3. WSU's final regular season home game will Saturday night when WSU hosts third-place Idaho. Tipoff with the Vandals will be at 7 p.m. Saturday. Idaho lost 86-83 at Idaho State on Thursday night.
