WSU downs NAU 77-63 for 10th straight home win

OGDEN – Weber State women's basketball picked up its 10th straight win in the Dee Events Center Saturday afternoon by taking down Northern Arizona 77-63 with the help of five Wildcats scoring in double figures.
The Wildcats had a slow start with a narrow 19-16 lead over the Lumberjacks by the end of the first quarter. However, the second quarter started with a 15-4 run by WSU giving them a 37-24 lead with four minutes remaining in the first half. Weber State maintained for those final three minutes and went into halftime with a 43-29 lead.
The third quarter was pretty evenly matched between the two teams. WSU scored 18 points in the third quarter while NAU hung tight scoring 17. WSU's second quarter performance kept the advantage with the Wildcats as they had a 61-46 lead over the Lumberjacks at the end of the third quarter.
The Lumberjacks started the final quarter of play with a 12-2 run closing the score gap to just six. The Wildcats finished the game sinking six free throws that gave them the final 77-63 victory.
Weber State was led by Larryn Brooks who dropped an even 20 points on the game. Emily Drake was next. Drake had 17 points and 11 rebounds for WSU, her first double-double of the season. Kailie Quinn helped out WSU by adding 14 points. Not far behind her was Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman with 12 points and Briana Gray came through with 10.
Jocelyn Adams didn't disappoint, despite not scoring in double figures she did pull down the game high of 12 rebounds. This is Adams' second consecutive game with double figure rebounding.
The Wildcats shot 39 percent from the field, 37 percent from the three and 81 percent from the free throw line. WSU had 41 total rebounds, 13 assists, five blocks and seven steals with only nine turnovers.
Northern Arizona had four in double figures and were led by Olivia Lucero who had 18 points. NAU had 49 total rebounds, eight assists, 13 turnovers and four steals. The Lumberjacks shot 35 percent from the field, only 15 percent from the three and 66 percent from the free throw line. NAU started the game going just 1-10 from beyond the arc.
Weber State is now 16-5 overall on the season and are sitting pretty at 8-2 in Big Sky Conference play. The Wildcats will have four of the final six games of the season at home, but first they hit the road to North Dakota, Feb. 8 and Northern Colorado Feb. 10.
