WSU downs EWU 4-3 in Big Sky quarterfinals

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Weber State women's tennis team came back and surged for an impressive 4-3 win over Eastern Washington in the opening round of the Big Sky Championship Tournament.
Weber State started off by competing very tough in the doubles competition. Sara Parker and Dominique Beauvais defeated Zoey Nelson and Faye Worrall 6-0 in the No. 2 spot. The doubles point came down to the No. 3 spot and Morgan Dickason and Emily Tanner competed well but fell 7-5 giving Eastern Washington the point advantage going into singles play.
In singles competition, the Wildcats started off slow in singles action falling in both the No. 6 and No. 4 spots.
Sara Parker started things off for WSU with a 6-7 (2-7), 6-1, 6-3 win in the No. 3 spot defeating Stephanie Broussard.
In the No. 1 spot Pei_Hsuan Kuo defeated Zoey Nelson 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 1 spot. At that point in the match the Wildcats were down 3-2 and needed to close out both of the remaining matches to come up with the victory.
In the No. 2 spot, Caitlin Herb fought tough to the end and came out with a 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 6-4.
With the match tied up at 3-3, things came down to Dickason in the No. 5 spot. Dickason was up 5-4 in the third set and came up with the final set point to take a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Rachel Swindell. Dickason's victory clinched the match for WSU but all Wildcats contributed big efforts for the overall team victory.
Weber State is now 11-13 overall on the season and will take on the No. 1 seed, Northern Arizona tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. MT in the semi-final round of the Big Sky Championships.
