Wildcats sweep double header

 OGDEN - The Weber State University women's tennis team played a doubleheader Friday afternoon as they defeated Lewis & Clark College and Boise State University. WSU picked up its first win of the day against Lewis & Clark College with a dominating 4-0 performance. The 'Cats later went on to beat Boise State with an exciting 4-3 win.
"I am so proud of the girls' focus and professionalism from start to finish,"said head coach Mark Roberts. "They all came to the courts ready for a doubleheader and a long day of tennis. They handled themselves extremely well from start to finish. It was an excellent day with great teamwork."Â
WSU started the day with a commanding performance against Lewis & Clark as they captured the doubles point. In the No. 2 spot, Sara Parker and Pei-Hsuan Kuo defeated Jen Roux and Rosselli 6-0. Then in the No. 3 spot Morgan Dickason and McKenna Lloyd defeated Sophie Uhlenkott and Kyla Collier 6-2.Â
In singles action, in the No. 6 spot, Lloyd defeated Alexandra Barry 6-2, 6-1 to start things off. Megan Lombardi followed with 6-2, 6-0, over  Uhlenkott in the No. 5 spot.Â
Freshman Yuuna Ukita defeated Laura Rosselli 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 2 spot to secure the fourth and final match point giving WSU a commanding 4-0 victory.
Against Boise State, Weber State had a slow start after dropping the doubles point. It was not a clean sweep as Sara Parker and Pei-Hsuan Kuo in the No. 2 spot defeated Wiktoria Nosek and Vanessa Timm 6-2.Â
On the singles side, the 'Cats had a dominating performance as they won four out of six matches. Lombardi proved victorious in the No. 6 spot as she defeated Frankie Trella 6-4, 6-3.Â
Ukita picked up an easy win as she defeated Nosek, 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 3 spot. In the No. 4 spot was freshman Cali Fuller who defeated Emily Strande 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.Â
After both teams were tied 3-3 the team victory came down to a final match between Caitlin Herb and Wilhelmina Palmer in the No. 1 spot. Herb came from behind after the first set where she had a gutsy performance and came away with the win with score of 0-6, 6-4, 6-4. Herb's victory gave the Wildcats the overall 4-3 match win.Â
"This was a great team win against a good Boise State team," Roberts also noted.Â
Weber State is now 2-1 on the season. They will return home as they host Akron on Jan. 31 at 11:30 a.m.Â
