Men's tennis fall season comes to an end at ITA Regionals

Weber State men's tennis team finished out the fall season at the ITA Regionals over the weekend. Kris van Wyk finished in the last eight competitors. 

"We finished the tournament and I am pleased with how it went," Director of Tennis Brad Ferreira said. "Each of the guys competed very well and had some great wins.  Overall I'm very happy with how the fall went and look forward to the season in spring."

The Wildcats competed against players from 18 different schools in the mountain region. Each team was only allowed to take their top six players posing for strong competitive matches. 
 
Van Wyk was picked as the #10 seed overall and had a first round bye. In his second round he took on Morgan Ihrig from Air Force and came away with a 7-5, 0-6, 6-3.  In his third round, he defeated Christian Holmes from Utah State 6-2, 6-2. In the round of 16, van Wyk continued his strong performance defeated Matheus Leite from BYU with scores of 6-3, 6-2.  The quarter final round is where van Wyk's reign came to an end. He fell to Sean Hill from BYU with scores of 6-2, 6-3. 

Paul Ohde had two solid wins for WSU. In the opening round he came from behind to defeat David Ball from BYU 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. In the round of 64, Ohde defeated Benjamin Campi from Nevada 6-1, 6-2. Ohde's run came to an end in the third round as he fell to Stepan Holis from University of New Mexico 6-0, 6-1. 

In the opening round, Arthur Serafim defeated Montana State's Christian Damgaard-qvist 6-1, 6-4 advancing Serafim to the second round. He fell just short to Blake Bayldon from Boise State with scores of 6-1, 6-4. 

Bo-Han Li defeated Mathias Gavelin from Utah in a long fought battle with scores of 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-2 in the consolation bracket. He later fell to North Dakota's Facundo Bermejo 6-1, 6-2 to end his singles stint. 

In doubles action, van Wyk and Michiel Van Schoor were give the overall 10 seed earning a first round bye. They fell just short in their first doubles match of the tournament to Idaho's Perez Bascon and Esteban Santibanez 8-5. 

Serafim and Ohde came up with a singles victory defeating Simon Arca-Costas and Ryland Mcdermott from Boise State with an 8-5 score. They ended up falling the No. 7 overall doubldes duo in the next round.
