'Cats drop home opener 71-56 to San Diego

OGDEN - Weber State dropped the home opener of the 2019-20 season as San Diego used a big second half to beat the Wildcats 71-56 Thursday night at the Dee Events Center.Â
The Toreros led 25-23 at halftime but shot 58 percent from the field in the second half and outscored WSU 46-33. Â
Weber State shot 38 percent from the field, compared to 50 percent shooting for San Diego. The Wildcats were just 3 of 18 from 3-point range and were 5 of 10 from the free throw line. WSU also committed 14 turnovers.Â
Senior Cody John led Weber State with 20 points on 8 of 15 shooting. He also grabbed five rebounds and knocked down two 3-pointers.Â
Kham Davis added nine points and seven rebounds. Israel Barnes had eight points and Tim Fuller added seven off the bench.Â
Senior Jerrick Harding returned to the lineup after missing the first game with a foot injury. He scored six points in 25 minutes of action. He also moved past Jimmy DeGraffenried into fourth place on the Weber State all-time scoring list.Â
The Wildcats return to the Dee Events Center Tuesday night to host West Coast Baptist at 7 p.m. After that, WSU will play three games at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Florida.Â
