Cold streak continues for WSU with 2-4 loss to UC RIverside

OGDEN - The Weber State University men's tennis team finished out the UNLV tournament as they fell to UC Riverside 2-4. Yesterday's match against New Mexico State was canceled due to rain.

WSU had a quick start as they captured the doubles point. In the No.3 spot Paul Ohde and Bo-Han Li who dominated Vignesh Subramanyan and Gilbert Chung 6-1. Kris van Wyk and Michiel Van Schoor defeated Filip Engstrom and Anderson Ju 6-4 to secure the doubles point. The Van Schoor and van Wyk duo went 3-0 in the No.1 doubles spot at the UNLV tournament.

The lone singles point came from junior Nick Werner in the No. 4 spot who beat Ju in straight sets, with scores of 6-4,6-2. This is the first singles win of the season for Werner.

The remaining singles matches were met with tough performances from the 'Cats but ultimately couldn't capitalize.

In the No.3 spot was Paul Ohde had a close match against Gilbert Chung but couldn't hang on in the end, 5-7, 4-6.

Fellow Wildcat Cezary Walkusz made his season debut in singles and had a tight match against Andreas Whelan-Merediz, 6-7, 2-6.

Bo-Han Li was leading David Ramirez in the No. 5 spot, 6-3, 6-5 before the match was called.

Weber State is now 0-7 on the season and will return home on Feb. 9 to take on Colorado Mesa at noon.
