Wildcats roll to win over Idaho and clinch Big Sky Tournament bye

OGDEN - Weber State never trailed and got back on the winning track with a dominating 93-59  win over Idaho Thursday night at the Dee Events Center.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak and moved to 11-8 in Big Sky play. With the win, the Wildcats cliched a first-round bye into next week's Big Sky Tournament in Boise.

The Wildcats made eight of their first 11 shots and jumped out to a quick 14-point lead midway through the half. WSU closed the first half on a 22-4 run over the final 7:19 and led by 26 at halftime.

It was all Weber State in the second half as the Wildcats used another 18-3 run early in the half and led by 36 with 9:18 to play. The lead reached 41 points with three minutes to play.

The Wildcats shot 50 percent from the field and held Idaho to 36 percent shooting. WSU also outrebounded the Vandals 39-35 and had 16 assists and a season-high 12 steals.

WSU also had a season-low five turnovers and forced Idaho into 22 turnovers, the most against WSU this season. The 'Cats turned that into 28 points off turnovers.

Five Wildcats scored in double figures led by Jerrick Harding with 22 points and four steals. He also moved into sixth place on the Weber State career scoring list.

Cody John added 20 points with three assists and Brekkott Chapman had 17 points and three assists. Zach Braxton finished with 11 points and six rebounds and freshman Dima Zdor added 12 points in 10 minutes of play. 

The Wildcats move to 17-13 overall and into a three-way tie with Eastern Washington and Montana State for third in the league standings. With a win Saturday against Eastern Washington in the regular season finale, Weber State would finish third.

With a loss, Eastern Washington would finish third and the Wildcats would finish fourth or fifth. Montana State closes the at Portland State. With a loss at PSU, the Wildcats would finish in a three-way tie for fourth with Montana State and Portland State but would win that tiebreaker by virtue of a 3-1 record against those two teams.

The Wildcats and Eagles play Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.
