Nine Weber State track and field athletes will continue their season at the NCAA West Preliminary Round, looking to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

The WSU women's team had six athletes, Lindsey Johnson, Tawnie Moore, Emily Morgan, Kate Sorensen, Lexie Thompson and Paige Van Meeteren, qualify for the meet. The Wildcat men's team had three athletes, Nathan Dunivan, Keaton Pace and Tracen Warnick, that qualified. Five of the nine athletes won Big Sky individual titles at last week's conference championships.

The NCAA West Preliminary Meet will be held May 23-25 in Sacramento, hosted by Big Sky member Sacramento State.

The meet includes those athletes in the top 48 in their events in the western United States. The top 12 from each event at the meet, will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.

Nathan Dunivan is the top ranked Wildcat athlete entering the meet. The senior from Colorado Springs, Colorado, is ranked ninth in the west region in the discus. He holds the WSU school record in the event with a mark of 188-10, set May 2 at the Weber State Twilight Meet. Dunivan won the Big Sky title in the discus and the hammer throw at last year's meet. This will be Dunivan's second time competing at the NCAA West meet.

The top ranked athlete on the women's side is Kate Sorensen. The sophomore from Gunnison, Utah, ranks 11th in the west region in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.95. She won the conference title at the Big Sky meet and broke her own school record in the event earlier this season. This is the second-straight year Sorensen has qualified for the NCAA West meet.

Lindsey Johnson, a senior from Albuquerque, New Mexico, is ranked 14th in the west in the women's high jump. She won the title in the event at last week's conference meet with a career-best jump of 5-10.75. That mark is the fourth best jump in Weber State history.

Wildcat senior Tawnie Moore will compete in the women's 100 meter hurdles. Moore won the conference title in the event for the second time in her career and broke her own school and conference record with a time of 13.15. That time currently ranks 16th in the west region. This is Moore's second time in the NCAA West meet.

WSU will have two athletes in the women's high jump as senior Paige Van Meeteren also qualified for the event. The Oakley, Idaho, native ranks 24th in the region entering the meet with a mark of 5-09.75, the sixth best in WSU history. She finished second to Johnson at the Big Sky Championships.

Emily Morgan is 30th in the west region in the women's 100 meter dash. She won the conference title in the event and broke her own school record with a time of 11.51. That time is also the fourth-fastest time in Big Sky history. Morgan is a junior out of Vancouver, Washington.

Lexie Thompson will compete in the 10,000 meters. The junior from American Fork enters the meet ranking 33rd in the west with a time of 34:12.23, which ranks as the sixth fastest in Weber State history. Thompson earned All-Big Sky honors by finishing third in the 5,000 meters at the conference championships.
