Wildcat tennis plays well but falls to Denver 5-2

DENVER, CO - Weber State men's tennis took on the Denver Pioneers in Denver, Colorado tonight and fell 5-2.Â
"We competed well tonight," said men's head coach, Brad Ferreira. "Arthur came back from a set down to play extremely well, and Sebastian continues to impress with a very good win against a solid player."
Denver came away with the doubles point after picking up wins in the no. 1 and no. 2 spot. The no. 2 spot was a narrow match as WSU duo Kris van Wyk and Bo-Han Li fell 6-4 to the Denver's Mattia Ros and Pedro F. Del Valle. Wildcat duo Brendan Barr and Arthur Serafim fell to the Pioneer's Matt Summers and James Davis 6-1 in the no. 1 spot.
In singles play, the Pioneers picked up the first point in the no. 3 spot. Denver came away with wins in the no. 3 and no. 4 spots to claim the overall match victory, but singles action wasn't over yet.
Arthur Serafim and Sebastian Buxman picked up points in the no. 2 and no. 5 spots, respectively. Serafim took down Mattia Ros with a 3-6, 6-3, (10-4) victory to give Weber State its first point. Buxman had a big win when he took down Pedro F. Del Valle 7-6, 6-1 to give the Wildcats their second point.Â
Weber State's Kris van Wyk took the no. 1 match to three sets against Denver's Matt Summers, but fell just short of the win at 4-6, 6-3, (10-7).
"We barely lost at 1. To be this close against a very good team like Denver is great for our confidence," said Ferreria.Â
Weber State (1-2 overall) will continue play against Bryant on January 25th at 4:00 pm.Â
