'Cats fall to Dustdevils in home opener

OGDEN - The Weber State women's basketball team opened the home portion of the 2020-21 season with a 60-46 loss to Texas A&M International University Sunday afternoon at the Dee Events Center. 
 
The Dustdevils led 17-10 after the first quarter, then went on an 8-0 run and led 27-16 late in the second quarter and held a 29-19 lead at halftime. 
 
The Wildcats cut the lead to 38-30 before a 7-0 TAMIU run gave the Dustdevils a 14-point lead at 44-30. WSU was never closer than 10 points the rest of the way.  
 
The Dustdevils shot 41 percent from the field and held the Wildcats to 30 percent shooting, including 0-12 from 3-point range. 
 
For the second-straight game Daryn Hickok led the way for the Wildcats, finishing with 13 points. She was 3 of 4 from the field and 7 of 10 from the free throw line. 
 
Sophomore Jadyn Matthews pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds for the Wildcats and finished with 10 points for her first career double-double. Kori Pentzer and Ula Chamberlin each added eight points for the Wildcats. 
 
Up next for Weber State is a road game at Boise State next Sunday, Dec. 6. The next home game is scheduled for Dec. 15 against Pacific. The Big Sky opener is Dec. 18 against Portland State.
