In the first road game of the season, Weber State fell 70-59 to Boise State Sunday afternoon at ExtraMile Arena in Boise. Â
Â
The Wildcats jumped out to a five-point lead early in the game but Boise State closed the first half on a 12-2 run over the last 5:44 and led 35-26 at halftime.Â
Â
Weber State started the second half on a 13-5 run, including a 7-0 spurt that cut the lead to 40-39 with 14:13 to play. But Boise State responded with an 11-0 run of its own and never looked back. The Wildcats were never closer than eight points the rest of the way.Â
Â
Senior guard Isiah Brown led the Wildcats in scoring for the third-straight game, finishing with 18 points with 13 coming in the second half. He was also 8 of 8 from the free throw line and had three rebounds and two assists.Â
Â
Cody Carlson scored in double figures for the third-straight game, finishing with 17 points on 6 of 7 shooting, including two 3-pointers. Carlson is now shooting 85 percent from the field through three games.Â
Â
Michal Kozak had seven points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, along with three blocked shots.Â
Â
"Boise State is a really good basketball team so this was a good test for our team," said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. "We needed to play a game like this against a high quality opponent and I thought we did a lot of good things and had great effort. We got some good looks but just couldn't finish them. This is still a learning experience, we just need more games to get more comfortable."
Â
Boise State shot 41 percent from the field, while the Wildcats shot 37 percent. WSU was 6 of 25 from 3-point range and had 16 turnovers.Â
Â
The Wildcats are back on the road this weekend for the first Big Sky Conference games, playing at Portland State Friday night and Sunday afternoon.Â
