Weber State started Big Sky Conference play with a dominant performance, rolling to a 94-66 win at Portland State Friday night in Viking Pavilion.
Â
The Wildcats never trailed en route to the 28-point win, which is tied for WSU's biggest win over Portland State since the Vikings joined the Big Sky in 1996.Â
Â
Weber State knocked down 10 3-pointers and finished the night shooting 48 percent from the field. The Wildcats also held the Vikings to 33 percent shooting. Weber State also outrebounded Portland State 46-34 and had 34 points in the paint.Â
Â
WSU jumped out to a 7-0 lead and led 20-7 with 12:10 to play. The Vikings trimmed it to a six-point lead with 3:36 to play in the half before the Wildcats closed out the first half on a 14-3 run and led 48-31 at halftime.Â
Â
The second half was more of the same as Portland State was never closer than 11 points the rest of the way and the WIldcats led by as many as 34 points.Â
Four Wildcats scored in double figures, led by junior Zahir Porter who had a career night, finishing with 24 points. He was 9 of 17 from the field, including three 3-pointers and had four rebounds and two assists.Â
Â
Isaiah Brown finished with 18 points, along with five rebounds, four assists and two steals and Cody Carlson added 14 points with a season-high nine rebounds. Seikou Sisoho Jawara added a season-high 11 points for the Wildcats.Â
Â
"We came out and played with good energy tonight and I'm so proud of our team," said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. "They played really hard against a very talented team. Now we turn around and plat them again and we know they'll be ready to go."Â
Â
This year the Big Sky Conference games will be the same opponent each weekend. The Wildcats and Vikings will be right back in action Sunday afternoon in Portland with a 1 p.m. Mountain time tipoff.Â
